Dear Families, Happy Sunday! We had another fantastic week in first grade. I can't believe it's already October! I love October in Atlanta and this weekend was just stellar. Photos Please excuse the Photo Dump! Lots of great photos from the past two weeks:
Wardlaw Morning News Remember, if you have a photo or video to share of a pet for Woof Wednesday or a fun activity for Thrilling Thursday, send it to [email protected]. We watch the Wardlaw Morning News every morning and the kids love to see photos and videos of their friends and all of our various pets (stuffies or real animals!) Homework I am so proud of the responsibility the students have shown with their weekly homework! Thank you so much for encouraging this work at home. On Friday students came home with homework for the coming week (due Thursday, October 5). Here is a link to the "cover page". Poetry and Songs Your children may also like to share the poems and songs we learn each week. We sing or recite them in a summer camp 'round the campfire fashion. Here are a few favorites-- if you're lucky, your first grader may want to perform them for you! Click on the link to view the poems and songs. You'll Sing a Song Peace Like a River When I Was Young Peanut, Peanut Butter At the end of the year, your first grader will come home with an "anthology" of all the poems and songs we learned during the school year! Gum You may have heard.... "focus gum" is a HUGE hit! It makes those tough times during math and writing not quite as tough. If you're at the checkout line at the store and remember to pick up a pack or two, we'd greatly appreciate it! Dates for your calendar: Now through October 13- If You Give a Dog a Treat Service Project Thursday, October 5- Mrs. Forrestal’s birthday Friday, October 6- Paws for Reading (bring a stuffed animal to school) Monday, October 9- Fall Break (No School) Friday, October 13- College Wear Spirit Day Friday, October 20- Dyslexia Dash Spirit Day Saturday, October 21- Dyslexia Dash Register here: https://runsignup.com/Race/GA/Atlanta/DyslexiaDash Tuesday, October 31- First Grade Halloween Party Wednesday, November 1- Teacher Planning Day (No School for Students) Have a wonderful week and thank you for sharing your children with me! Dear Families, I'm looking forward to seeing all of you for our parent teacher conferences Thursday and Friday. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to meet with me and your child's support team. On Wednesday I will send home a little snapshot of our goals this semester, and then at the conference we will share the Test Data Sheet which includes assessments since August. I look forward to sharing with you! Homework Students (and you!) are doing a great job so far with Homework! This week homework notebooks are due on Wednesday and I will fill them with new homework that will be due on Thursday, September 28. Here is the link to this week's cover sheet. We're having a blast together in first grade and learning lots! I have a few photos to share from the past several days:
Thank you for sharing your children with me! See you at our conference! Warmly, Heather Dear Families, We're having a blast together in first grade and learning lots! Homework Everyone brought home their Homework Notebooks on Friday. I explained to the students that you and they can choose when is a good time to complete homework. Some people are busy after school and might want to work on their homework at breakfast or on the weekend. Or some of us have super busy weekends and in the evening after dinner might be a good time to do homework. The notebooks are due back on Thursdays. Then I will fill them with new homework for the coming week! Here is a link to the Google Doc that is the cover sheet for our homework this week. Parents, please let me know if you have any questions or something to share about homework. I have a few photos to share from the past several days:
Parent Conferences Thank you so much for signing up for a Parent Teacher Conference time. I'm looking forward to sharing with you about your child's progress so far! I have to admit I am EXTRA excited for one conference in particular.... Elliot's new baby sister will arrive by conference time and she may come to the conference with Elliot's parents! Have a super rest of your week! Thank you for sharing your children with me. Warmly, Heather Dear Families, I hope your Labor Day weekend was filled with fun, family and friendship, and I hope the children enjoy an extra day while Speech School staff is in workshops and meetings. I look forward to welcoming the students back on Wednesday! Hopes and Dreams After lots of discussion and brainstorming, each student came up with their Hopes and Dreams for First Grade. The students completed their final Hope and Dream on a paper kite and added watercolors. They are now hanging in the hallway and look terrific! I have to be honest though... I got a little misty-eyed when I read their Hopes and Dreams. They are all going to soar this year, and later, when we check in with how we've progressed toward meeting our Hope and Dream, I bet they will feel so proud! "Me Bags" Begin Friday As a way to continue building our classroom community, each child should create a "Me Bag". Students may choose 4 items for their bag. They can choose any bag to put their items in, but all items need to be able to fit in the bag. Each day a group of students will share four special items and explain why they are special. Students may choose to share anything that is special to them and helps us to learn more about them. Items for their Me Bag might include a favorite book, a favorite summer vacation photo in combination with a favorite activity, a souvenir from a trip, a family picture, a baby picture, or a special item they received from a special family member or friend. Please encourage and assist your child in preparing for this activity, as it will be a fun way for us to get to know each other. Please help your child practice sharing their Me Bag at home. Students will be able to ask the presenter a question about their items. The schedule is as follows: Friday, 9/8: Smith, Tristan and Tommy Monday, 9/11: Wells, Lily, James Wednesday, 9/13: Elliott, Alice Friday, 9/15: Bebe, Robert Thank you in advance for helping your child with this project. We are looking forward to learning what is special to your child! Dates for your calendar Wednesday, September 6: Mrs. Forrestal will begin Language classes in our classroom. She works with us every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:40 and Fridays at 11:00. Check out our weekly schedule here: https://mrsborowski.weebly.com/schedule.html Friday, September 8: First Grade begins sending home homework.
